We are also looking for our Team of Creatives. Photographers and illustrators who want to flex their creative muscles and get involved in something new and exciting.

The Croft is entering a new stage for its fourth year in publication. Since it began, the magazine has grown so much, even being shortlisted this year for the SPA magazine award. This year, the Croft has some new and exciting changes coming. Therefore, the Editorial team will have a huge say and creative freedom with the Croft.

Being on the editorial team of The Croft is both an exciting and rewarding experience. General responsibilities will include commissioning and editing content, using multimedia platforms to enhance our readers' experience, and laying up print issues.

The Croft is also hiring our first social secretary, whose main task will be organising socials and meet-ups for the editorial team. Not only will you be learning some great skills, but you’ll also be meeting new people.

The Croft Editorial Positions

Social Secretary

This is a new role for The Croft. We realised after the pandemic, The Croft had become increasingly online. This was something we wanted to change. The Social Secretary will be in charge of organising a social every two weeks. Whether it’s Coffee, a few drinks at the pub, or something bigger. We want our Editorial team to meet and get to know one another. Our Social Secretary will also be involved in workshops and creating our very first newsletter!

Photographers

We are making a special team of creatives this year. With our magazine taking a new artistic direction, we are planning to showcase more student art and content. With double-page spreads, specific photoshoots in mind, and new artsy themes, photography is vital to our new vision. We are planning monthly editorial shoots and double page spreads, any props will be paid for - we want you to have the freedom to explore your artistic vision. Illustrators

The Croft wouldn’t be the same without art. We need a team of creative, passionate individuals to shape the Croft into its new stage. With workshops dedicated to illustration, we are planning to support you and your future work. Illustrators will be given a commission, and it will be their decision if they take this up or not. However, as a member of our team, we are expecting you to contribute at least once or twice. No experience is necessary, just love for drawing. Please see the separate form for creatives HERE

Style

Diverse, uplifting, and colourful, our style section is all about promoting individuality, sustainability and creativity. As arguably one of the most stylish cities in the UK, Bristol provides the perfect backdrop for all things fashion related.

From knowing all the underrated independent spots in the city to breaking down how you can craft your own aesthetics, our style team will ideally be passionate about finding ethical clothing, as well as being aware of the relationship we have between ourselves and our sense of style, exploring these and more in a range of cutting-edge articles.

Section Editor:

As the editor for the Style section, you will be responsible and accountable for the section and managing your individual team. Working with the Co-Editors in Chief to execute a collective vision, you will be in charge of the overall production of the section both in print and online. Coming up with original, interesting style-related content, and arranging content in an eye-catching, engaging way, you will have a genuine passion for fashion. Creativity, a keen interest in expressionism, and evidence of a passion for journalism are crucial.

Digital editor:

As the digital editor for the Style section, you will oversee creating of digital content for the section, both on the site and across the relevant social media platforms, liaising with the Social Media Manager. This may involve producing videos, graphics, advertisements, or other interactive content. As we build Croft’s online presence, we are looking for someone who will be proactive with ideas on how to share interesting and exciting style-related content online and create a buzz around the section. A good idea of how content is created, shared, and maximised online is preferable.

Deputy editor:

As deputy editor, you will be responsible for helping the Section Editor produce the section in print and assist with online coverage. Conscientious and proactive, you will be consistently looking for new trends and will work alongside the Section editor to create interesting and exciting content. A key element of your job will be flexibility and dependability, and we are looking for individuals who will be committed to their role.

Sub-editor:

As a sub-editor of the section, your role will be to ensure the layout of each issue and online publication reads with no grammatical, spelling or visual mistakes. You will be expected to have a good eye for captions and headlines and ensure these are up to standard, communicating with the section editors and replacing headlines with better alternatives when necessary.

Food

Technical, creative and delicious our food team needs to be in the know about tasty hot spots around Bristol. This section has great opportunities to explore your imaginative flair to create some real eye-catching articles.

From knowing all the best recipes on a budget, our food team will ideally be passionate about finding the best recipes places, and article titles for our audience. With an understanding of ourselves and our relationship with food, and perhaps exploring this idea through new and exciting articles.

Calm and accepting, our Wellbeing section is the place to be for interesting, thought-provoking articles. Straying away from just university-related content, this year’s wellbeing section is something a little different. We want to add to the conversation, not hinder those writing. Therefore, the Wellbeing section has been opened to allow broader more thought-provoking topics.

As the editor for the Wellbeing section, you will be responsible and accountable for the section and managing your individual team. You will be working alongside the Editor’s in Chief to achieve a collective vision. Overseeing all production of your section in print and online. You will ensure your content has appropriate trigger warnings, and handle topics with care. You will need to come up with interesting, inclusive content in a stylish manner. Creativity and openness to others are crucial.

Digital Editor:

As the digital editor for the Wellbeing section, you will oversee creating digital content for the section, both on the site and across the relevant social media platforms, liaising with the Social Media Manager. This may involve producing videos, graphics, advertisements, or other interactive content. As we build Croft’s online presence, we are looking for someone who will be proactive with ideas on how to share wellbeing-related content online and creates a buzz around the section. A good idea of how content is created, shared, and maximised online is preferable.

Travel is getting a revamp this year. Its content will focus more on Bristol related places alongside holiday destinations. Alongside a new look, we want broader topics surrounding travel (sustainability, safety, wanderlust etc). From knowing secret spots to explore in Bristol, the cheapest student-friendly holidays, or the feeling of homesickness – travel has a huge pick of topics this year.

As the editor for the Travel section, you will be responsible and accountable for the section and managing your individual team. You will be working alongside the Editor’s in Chief to achieve a collective vision. Overseeing all production of your section in print and online. You will ensure your content has appropriate trigger warnings, and handle topics with care. You will need to come up with interesting, inclusive content in a stylish manner. We want travel to revamp its aesthetic, so someone willing to help with this vision is crucial.

As the digital editor for the Travel section, you will oversee creating digital content for the section, both on the site and across the relevant social media platforms, liaising with the Social Media Manager. This may involve producing videos, graphics, advertisements, or other interactive content. As we build Croft’s online presence, we are looking for someone who will be proactive with ideas on how to share wellbeing-related content online and creates a buzz around the section. A good idea of how content is created, shared, and maximised online is preferable.
