Going into Autumn and the Halloween season, now is a great time to try some new cocktail recipes by adding a twist to the classics!

Apple cider mimosa

This delicious mimosa is a brunch favourite spin-off using apple cider and spices for a cosy feel. The harvest inspired flavours create a delicious cocktail that’s easy to make. You can adapt it for larger parties by adding orange and cranberry juice to a punch bowl for a fruitier touch.

Ingredients:

Rum

Cider

Prosecco

Apple slices, to garnish

Spiced sugar, for the rim

Method:

  1. Wet the rims of the glasses with apple cider, then dip into the sugary spiced mixture to coat the rim.
  2. Using the ratio 1:2:4 – rum: cider: prosecco, pour the rum and cider into the glasses then top up with prosecco or another sparkling wine of your choice.
  3. Garnish with apple slices if you choose to.

Top tip: Keep ice in your glasses whilst you mix the cocktails, to make sure your drinks are served cold.

Witches brew shooters

This deep purple coloured cocktail is a magnificent addition to any cocktail party. Using purple food colouring turns this ordinary shooter into your event’s eerie essential! This can be made into a longer drink by switching the lime juice shot with lemonade and using raspberry syrup instead of liqueur for a less alcoholic version.

Serves 4

Ingredients:

For the rim:

1 lime

3 drops purple food colouring

1tbsp sugar

For the cocktail:

120ml vodka

80ml lime juice

60ml raspberry liquor

Method:

  1. Prepare the shot glasses by dipping the rim in lime juice, then dipping into the purple sugar mixture to coat.
  2. Pour the remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice.
  3. Shake well, strain the drink and pour into the shot glasses.

Top tip: If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, a travel mug with a finger over the hole works well as a replacement!

Black magic cocktail

This spectacular twist on a Screwdriver will make the headline at any event! The black dye added to the vodka will create a scream-worthy variation that will be a hit this Halloween! Try not to make these in advance as the colours will mix and you won’t get that sunrise effect.

Serves 4

Ingredients

100ml vodka

Black food colouring

500ml orange juice

4 tbsp grenadine

Method:

  1. Add the food colouring to the vodka until you are satisfied with the pigment.
  2. Divide the mixture between glasses, then add orange juice followed by a spoon of grenadine on top. Do not mix.

Top tip: Freeze your choice of Halloween sweets as a creepy alternative to ice cubes
