Honestly too good to miss: Honest Burgers review

Deadline season is here and in full force and so are my junk food cravings! Whilst there's nothing wrong with indulging in a McDonald's every now and then I much prefer spending my overdraft on food places that make an effort to source ingredients locally.  Slightly out of the main university area Honest Burgers is found on Broad Street the perfect distance from Harbourside if you fancy drinks somewhere afterwards. If the quality of the food wasn't enough to convince you to visit then their efforts to give back to local communities should definitely be reason enough.

If you want to associate one word with the experience you will have with Honest Burgers, then it should be: quality. Sourcing quality British beef that is distributed to each chain the food company tries as hard as possible to make the food they serve as locally sourced as possible. From the chips you eat to the sauces you dip them in much of the food is made on site which is often such a rarity with modern restaurants.

If you want to associate one word with the experience you will have with Honest Burger, then it should be: quality

Burgers under the spotlight

The Bristol Burger

For those interested in expanding their culinary palette and sampling more local produce 'The Bristol' should be your first choice. Most Honest Burgers restaurants feature a local burger choice which adds to the character of the place and displays their efforts to make your eating experience more special.

This addition consists of: a beef and bacon burger with smoked cheddar and cheese curds, shoestring fries, cider and bacon gravy, onion and pickles.

Good Karma

This burger is the child of the Karma Cola collaboration. It consists of: beef, Karma Cola candied bacon, double American cheese, shoestring fries, Karma Cola bacon gravy, red onion and pickles.

A pound from every sale is donated to the Karma Cola Foundation, a company who ethically source their ingredients from Sierra Leone and supports growers, farmers and their families.

Super Sides

Onion rings are one of the most obvious sides to have with a burger and Honest Burgers don't disappoint with this addition. Taking classics and adding a quirky twist is something that Honest Burgers prides itself on. I would never have considered adding aniseed to an onion ring but this added a very unique flavour and I was pleasantly surprised. For £4 it's a very good deal considering the size of the portions.

Wanting to try something a little more interesting it was a must to order the highly recommended white cabbage, kholrabi, carrot and pumpkin seed slaw. Another reasonably priced option for £3.50. This definitely took a dramatic turn to the normally vibrant and zesty classic- having preconceived expectations for how this would be I don't know if I would order this side again. It wasn't as punchy as it could have been but I appreciate Honest Burgers' experimentation!

It was great to sample some different items at the restaurant and if like me you find yourself strapped for the cash throughout the week, fear not. Honest Burgers offer a 30% student discount from Monday to Sunday 11:30-17:30.

So what are you waiting for? With quality food and a range of options for those with dietary requirements there really is no excuse for not visiting.
