This month, Bristol city center was home to the filming of a new television series, Young Sherlock, directed by celebrated filmmaker Guy Ritchie. The eight-part series is based on Andy Lane’s novel Young Sherlock Holmes and is set to debut on Amazon Prime in 2025.
Bristol’s historic Old City has seen locations such as Small Street, Queen’s Square, and St Nick’s Market reimagined for the period drama. Horses were seen pulling period vehicles across Queen’s Square and posters outside the Corn Exchange in Bristol suggested its transformation into the fictional Queen’s Theatre Oxford, hinting at the series' setting during Sherlock's time studying at Oxford University.
The series was reportedly filmed in Cardiff during the summer and has since moved on to Bristol this autumn.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin, best known for his role as a young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, stars as the protagonist, whilst Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth has also joined the cast.
Bristol has increasingly gained attention as a popular filming location. In recent years, the city has been featured in high-profile productions, including Netflix’s Sex Education and the BBC’s The Outlaws, which both featured scenes at the University of Bristol.
