The next Annual Members’ Meeting is on 15 February and attendance is open to all students.
The Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) is the Student Union’s largest democratic event. Any motions that pass become active SU policy for three years.
It takes place once a year in second term with the next AMM on 15 February at 17:00.
There are five motions that will be debated:
1) Bristol SU to oppose the university’s unsustainable expansion. This motion would allow the SU to lobby the University to reduce student numbers.
2) Protecting students in nightclubs and bars. Bristol SU would collaborate with night-time venues to eliminate sexual harassment and assault.
3) Mandatory Network Committee positions and Bye-Law 7 changes. This motion will intend to reform the Student Network Committees to to promote the interests and welfare of all students.
4) [Trigger warning – mentions of self-harm and suicide] Install R;PPLE on all university IT infrastructure. R;pple is an interceptive tool designed to present a visual prompt when a person searches for harmful keywords or phrases relating to the topic of self-harm or suicide.
5) Update Bye-Law Section-9. This motion would streamline existing processes to ensure all groups remain student-led.
There are also four old policies that will be debated for renewal:
1) Boycott Barclays. This motion requests that the university cuts all ties with Barclays bank until they end fossil fuel finance.
2) Boycott the border industry on campus. This motion requests that the university breaks all ties with the five major border industry companies.
3) Support for the movement against immigration detention and the hostile environment. This motion aims to provide awareness and support surrounding the detainment of immigrants and asylum seekers in the UK.
4) Divesting from Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank. This motion includes lobbying the university to end financial links with companies that facilitate Israel's occupation of the West Bank.
The voting will take place 16 - 18 February. All students who attend will be contacted with details on how to vote.
