With St Patrick’s Day coming up, Bristol’s rich music scene is a great place to explore and catch some live music to get you in the festive mood. From soothing singer-songwriters to rousing bands ensuring a rowdy time, Epigram has got you covered. Here are five live music events ready to spread that St Patrick’s Day spirit.
Irish Takeover at Ashton Gate Stadium
On Friday March 14, Ashton Gate Stadium is set to hold an Irish Takeover! This begins with a Ceili, a traditional Irish social gathering that includes dancing and socialising - Irish Dancing demonstrations and lessons will take place until 20:00.
After this, folk band POOR OLD DOGS will provide the live music up until 23:00, followed by a set from DJ Patrick through until 02:00. Tickets are priced £10 for adults, £5 for kids – this event is suitable for younger and older generations alike.
W.E Irish Fleadh Cheoil at Revolution Bar
On Sunday March 16, the West of England Irish group are hosting a celebratory night of traditional Irish dancing and live music in Revolution Bar. Expect a varied and spirited night of live music – with a lineup of 10 bands and a mix of genres including Irish folk, indie and dance music, there is sure to be something for everyone there.
This event starts at 12:00 and ends at 19:00, so for those keen to see some live music but skip a late night before the big St Patrick’s day itself, this event is perfect. Tickets for students start at £6.50.
Joe & The Temperance Two at The Bristol Fringe
On St Patrick’s Day itself, head down to cosy Clifton pub The Bristol Fringe to catch Joe & The Temperance Two, an energetic trio offering folk sounds, traditional fiddles, and hypnotic rhythms sure to get you up and dancing.
The band will be starting at 20:00 and finishing at 22:30, and this event is completely free.
Blue Badgers Unplugged at Highbury Vaults
If you are still in the St Patrick’s spirit the next night, on Tuesday March 18 intimate and relaxed pub Kingsdown Vaults will be hosting Blue Badgers, an energetic Bristol based folk band.
They will be playing traditional songs, as well as some original songs from their new album. The gig starts at 20:00 and ends at 22:00, and is free to come and see.
Daoirí Farrell at Bristol Folk House
On Friday March 21, highly acclaimed folk artist Daoirí Farrell will be playing at Bristol Folk House. Hailed as one of the best recent voices in Irish Folk, Farrell enchants audiences with powerful vocals and haunting melodies.
If you have enjoyed a month of Irish folk, this event is sure to be the icing on the cake. The show starts at 20:00, and ticket prices start from £15.
