Gravity (2017-2024), Motion (2006-2025), and now Lizard Lounge (1997-2025). The iconic nightclub, a staple of Bristol nightlife for nearly three decades, has joined the ever-growing list of venues closing their doors for good.
The news comes from posts on both Meta platforms, made by the official Lizard Lounge account three days ago, with the caption: ‘The end of an era. 1997-2025.’
While no further information has yet been provided by the venue, this devastating closure is likely due to the rising costs of running a nightclub in Bristol. Many other venues have cited this as their reason for saying goodbye, leaving locals to wonder whether Bristol’s nightlife has a future.
A forfeiture notice was issued to the venue on June 16 2025, and can still be seen on the door to the premises. This was likely issued following a non-payment of rent by the tenant (Lizard Lounge), given that no breach of contract was specified. See Section 146 of the Law of Property Act 1925.
At the time of writing, the venue is listed as ‘permanently closed’ on Google and there is currently no news on the fate of the site post-Lizard Lounge.
The comments on the Instagram post show immense love and support from DJs and punters alike, with many thanking the club for facilitating great nights out, messy memories, and lack thereof.

Lizard Lounge will be missed, but the memories it helped make and the legacy it leaves behind will live on.
