Following the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, the University of Bristol has stuck its neck out to become the first UK University to declare a formal ‘Kirkaversary’ to honour his name.
‘Kirkaversary UoB style’, a name apparently workshopped for months, will take place every year on the 10th of September (the anniversary of Kirk’s passing), with a week of events to follow, including fun-spirited debates about whether marginalised groups should have rights.
Sources familiar with the events planning said that students can anticipate photos of Charlie at freshers’ events, a Turning Point USA themed Balloon Bar evening (with blue and red glowsticks), and appearances from Candace Owens and Erika Kirk on a ‘change my mind’ panel. When asked what the premise of the panel would be, a university spokesperson simply posted on X ‘we didn’t do it’.
As Charlie would have wanted, the idea of handing out guns on campus was also floated around, but rejected on the grounds that there is a very remote possibility this could be harmful. Instead, a small contained flame will be offered to students to carry if they would like to.

The announcement has been met with mixed responses from students, with many wondering if Kirkaversary UoB style is intended as a continuation of a dying meme. The University has since clarified it is not, also saying that Kirkaversary UoB Style will ‘further freedom of speech, which is what Charlie should be remembered for, without question’.
