Calling all science writers: ABSW is coming to Bristol

By Ilgin Guzel, SciTech Editor

Are you hoping to get into science journalism or gain some practical experience before the classes begin? If that’s the case, then don’t miss out on this opportunity from the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW), coming up in Bristol this Friday, September 4th.

For an exclusive group of 20 student science writers and communicators, the event offers a one-day training in scientific journalism and more. Between 10:00 and 16:00, you'll have the unique opportunity to meet the researchers from our beloved University of Bristol during an interview at the Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing, located on Avon Street.

With the support of senior journalists from Physics World and the ABSW board, participants will be divided into small teams to be mentored on writing real news articles. The best thing about this event for your portfolio is that the article will not only be edited but also published online on the ABSW website - but don't forget to submit your adapted article to our SciTech section at Epigram too!

The event isn’t all just interviews and trainings, though. After the daytime training wraps up, the group will be heading over to a nearby pub for drinks, networking, and a massive game of Blood on the Clocktower (which, for the board game fans out there, is basically a much better version of Werewolf).

Tickets are £15 for ABSW Student members and £40 for non-members, which covers the full-day training, mentorship, meals, and refreshments.

It is an amazing chance to build your byline, interact with the professionals, and network with other student journalists as well as researchers. You can get your ticket and see the entire schedule at the ABSW website.
