Bristol climbs the university league tables

Published on the 25th April, the latest UK league table, shows that 21 out of Bristol’s 39 subjects are ranked in the top 10, including 1st places for Engineering Design, up from 3rd from last year.

The Complete University Guide is often referred to by prospective students. The site ranks over 140 of the UK’s universities in one main table and has 70 individual subject tables as well.

Other subjects which also ranked highly include: Sociology (2nd), Aerospace Engineering (3rd), Mechanical Engineering (4th) and Pharmacology and Pharmacy (5th).

The 10 categories used to measure the rankings include: student satisfaction; research quality; research intensity; entry standards; student/staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; good honours degrees; graduate prospects and completion.

Of our 39 subjects, 21 are ranked in the top 10 for their discipline, with our Engineering Design degree rated 1st in the country in the General Engineering category. . The highest scores received by Bristol were within research intensity, good honours and degree completion in the South West region, and also the ratio of staff to students.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hugh Brady said: "Here at Bristol we pride ourselves on the quality of our students, our world-leading research and our inspiring learning environment. It's very pleasing to see this recognised in the Complete University Guide, and I’m especially proud that our General Engineering degree has been ranked best in the country.”

It comes alongside the release of new data by the QS World University Rankings by Subject, which confirms that 29 subjects taught by the University of Bristol are highly ranked within the world’s top 100.
