'A Sobering Reminder' is the winning submission for Epigram's Give it a Go introductory task to write a 150-word crazy freshers story in under ten minutes, including a title.

Freshers’ week had barely even begun when a raucous street fight caused a stir amongst Bristol’s newest undergraduates. Late on a Sunday evening, a group of newly-acquainted flatmates were forced to ring for emergency services to attend a physical altercation between two men in their mid-forties. The incident, which took place just beyond Clifton Downs, occurred while the freshers were on their way to Circuit nightclub, and resulted in both men sustaining minor injuries. The reasons behind the verbal dispute which led to the violence remain unknown, but one witness noted that there were clear physical signs that alcohol had been consumed. With Bristol listed as a Purple Flag city, students are in the privileged position of feeling safe for the majority of late-night outings. However, events such as these serve as small reminders of why the nightlife of our vibrant city is best enjoyed in trusted company.
