Candidates for the SU elections have been announced ahead of the campaigning and voting period next week, with only two candidates vying for the role of Undergraduate Education Officer.
The Undergraduate Education Officer is responsible for enhancing the university experience for all undergraduate students at Bristol. They work to improve both academic and the co-curricular experience of students, along with ensuring the full representation of the diverse undergraduate body.
Incumbent officer Mia Stevens, who is hoping for re-election, has worked from '24-25 with student focus groups and the Bristol Institute of Learning and Teaching to improve the quality and timeliness of assessment feedback, and ensure that students are able to engage with marking criteria. She has also produced resources to clarify the guidance around use of AI in assessments.
Stevens is running against current part-time course representative, Jill R Saliya, who is currently finishing an MSc in Financial Technology.
Jill R Saliya

Saliya's campaign tagline is simple: ‘Let’s Fix This Mess!’.
His campaign proposals include:
- Better learning resources & faster feedback
- Flexible deadlines & clear grading
- Real academic + mental health support
- Stronger student-staff connections
- Affordable & inclusive education
According to Saliya, these policies aim to 'make uni fairer and less stressful'.
Mia Stevens

Stevens has completed an undergraduate and Master's degree in English Literature, having matriculated at the University of Bristol in 2020.
If re-elected, she hopes to 'encourage kindness, empathy and inclusivity across all areas of undergraduate education'.
Stevens' proposals include:
- Enhancing quality of assessment feedback
- Alleviating financial barriers
- Increasing employability within the curriculum.
Voting opens at 9am on Monday, 10 March, when candidates begin their official campaigning, and closes at 9pm on Thursday 13 March.
