The University of Bristol has today updated its guidance on face coverings, making it mandatory policy for all students and staff to wear face masks in indoor spaces following the rise in the R rate.
Students will now be required to wear a mask in any indoor space on campus.
Students will need to wear a visor and a mask together, when attending any in-person teaching and when queuing outside rooms before teaching starts and when leaving rooms.
This follows last week’s news that the University of Bristol has ordered 75,000 transparent plastic face visors for students and staff to wear during in-person teaching and in spaces around the campus.
Bristol University will be providing new and returning students with a mask and a visor when they arrive on campus, which must be collected prior to attending any in-person teaching.
A spokesperson for the University of Bristol said: ‘Following the rise in the R rate, we have updated our policy on face covering and now require masks to be worn in any indoor space on campus to minimise the potential spread of Coronavirus.
‘For in-person teaching, we require students to wear both a mask and a visor.’
‘Further information is available on our website and we will be communicating with all students in due course.’
The current R rate of the infection for Coronavirus in the South West is estimated to be between 0.9 and 1.6.
