The Croft Magazine // Now that Bristol's nightlife will be taking less of a toll on your skin during lockdown, taking tips from a few of the best skincare gurus on YouTube will give your skin a chance to revive. So, here are the best skincare gurus whose videos don't feel tainted by sponsorships or aspirations to be on a brand's PR list.
Beauty Within
These girls must inhale beauty knowledge. They seem to know everything about every skin concern and every single product ingredient. They take complicated science-y sounding ingredients and make it easy for us mere mortals to understand. I learn so much from these two - I feel like I should be taking notes! I love how they are super honest about their own skincare journeys. It's very reassuring to hear that even with the best products and insight, nobody's skin is perfect.
Caroline Hirons
Caroline is a no BS all-round boss lady. She's a fierce protector of the beauty industry and brings a defiant feminist energy to her videos. She stays away from the catty drama which seems to haunt YouTube beauty gurus, yet calls out inappropriate behaviour when necessary.
Hyram
This self-proclaimed skincare specialist's videos are incredibly extensive when it comes to product breakdown. Hyram advocates for eco-friendly product packaging and condemns fragrance in products. If you want to know more about sensitive skin, Hyram is your guy! He's quick to call out TikTok beauty trends for their lack of accuracy and potentially dangerous techniques.
Cassandra Bankson
Acne advice is always appreciated much more when it comes from people who have actually experienced breakouts, (there's nothing worse than someone with flawless skin telling people how to clear their acne!) Cassandra reacts to celebrities' skincare routines, so we know whose techniques to emulate and which to ignore.
Gothamista
If you're thinking of buying a new product, chances are Gothamista has a review. It feels like she's tried and tested every product under the sun. She makes the best routine videos for every season and skin type, as well as individual product spotlights.
Here are all my favourite YouTube 'skinfluencers' to browse now we're back to absorbing more screen-time during lockdown. Who knows, perhaps skincare could be the new banana bread style lockdown craze?
