The Six Sisters project, a row of six murals painted above businesses on North Street in Bedminster has been completed.
Inspired by San Francisco’s Painted Ladies, the project celebrates and showcases the work of six Bristol-based female street artists and is now the UK’s largest female-led street art project.
On May 21, five years from the project’s inception, the final murals, by Lucas Antics and Ejits, were unveiled.
The project began at Upfest 2016 when Bristol-based artist and fashion designer Gemma Compton completed the first mural above Upfest gallery. Following this, the founder of Upfest, Stephen Hayles, decided to continue the series.
In 2019, Zoe Power completed the second mural above Zara’s Chocolates. In 2020, work by Bex Glover and Sophie Long was added to the project above Like Sew Amazing and South West Upholstery, respectively.
On International Women’s Day 2021, Hayles announced that the project would be completed in its entirety this year with the addition of murals by Ejits and Lucas Antics.

Ejits’ design draws on American animation and Japanese character design and Lucas Antics’ piece follows her distinct graphic-novel style work.
