Students and staff at the University of Bristol have a new option on campus for affordable, comforting meals that are freshly prepared. Located on the first floor of Merchant Venturers Building, at the bottom of Woodland Road, Source-V is open weekdays from 8:30am to 4pm.
The café serves jacket potatoes, homemade soups, wholesome mains, a small grab-and-go range, and a selection of beverages. According to a University press release, it uses a variety of vegetables, grains, and pulses to produce hearty, flavourful, vegetarian dishes that are supportive of more sustainable ways of eating.

In the University press release, promising ‘choice without compromise,’ Amy Morgan, Head of Source Catering, describes Source-V as ‘a space where everyone can enjoy nutritious food that’s both plant-forward and affordable.’
In response to Source-V’s opening, Agnes, a third year student, told Epigram:
‘It’s really encouraging to see Source, and the university as a whole, transitioning towards more affordable plant-based food. It’s clear that Source really cares about sustainability and the climate and it’s great to see them taking action by making plant-based catering more accessible to students.’

According to the University press release, this week has seen a variety of offers, redeemable through the Source app:
Monday November 3: first 100 soups free
Tuesday November 4: first 50 jacket potatoes half price
Wednesday November 5: buy a soup and get a voucher to have another for free
Thursday November 6: half price hot food
Friday November 7: first 50 hot drinks free

Another student told Epigram: ‘It’s nice that the University are putting on these offers so that we can try out the food without worrying about the cost. It’s also good that they are thinking about sustainability.’
