By Epigram Senior Editorial Team, 2025/26

Applications are open to join Epigram’s Senior Editorial Team for the 2026/27 academic year. Being on the Senior Team means that you will take on broad responsibilities at Epigram, working across different sections, and collaborating with Epigram & Croft Publishing’s committee. It’s a truly unique experience that will make your CV dazzle in the eyes of future employers, and gives you the chance to lead the conversation on campus. It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop skills in editorial judgement, digital and print media strategy, and team management and development.

Previous members of the senior team have gone on to have incredible careers, working in newsrooms like the BBC, ITV, the Times, the Guardian, the Telegraph, the NME, and much more. Epigram’s alumni have been taking senior positions in the world’s most respected news organisations for the last 35 years, and this is your chance to join them! Previous editors have also found success in a broad range of industries, from music to politics.

Applications are open NOW and will close at midnight on Sunday April 19. Interviews will take place on Saturday May 2. If you can't make that date, please let us know and we will organise an alternative. Please fill out this Google form with your details, and attach a document with answers to the following questions (max. 300 words/question):

1. Why do you want to be on the Senior Editorial Team, and not, for example, a section editor?

2. What experience do you have that would make you a good fit for the role?

3. What are your ideas for Epigram in 2026/27?

4. What's one improvement Epigram's Senior team could have made this year? How would you make this improvement in 2026/27?

5. Who is someone you've admired working with or under (not on the senior team) this year, and why?

On the Senior Editorial Team, you'll be able to call the shots and move Epigram in the direction you see fit. We have different positions based on people's specialisms and where they will fit best.

Co Editor-in-Chief (x2) – 12-14 hours/week

The Co Editors-in-Chief oversee all aspects of Epigram. From online, in print, and social media, all of Epigram's content is ultimately your responsibility

The role relies significantly on your ability to work co-operatively with your Co Editor, and the rest of the Senior Editorial team. You must be a team player, whilst being a team leader. The role is two sided. You will be expected to lead the paper from within while also acting as the main spokesperson for Epigram externally. You are required to ensure that editorial standards are maintained, while also having an excellent eye for detail and what stories you want Epigram to publish. The direction of the paper is your prerogative.

The role covers all aspects of management, creativity, and safeguarding. You will provide editorial direction for the sections of the paper to operate within. You will make sure that all sections are doing what needs to be done. And if things go wrong, it is your responsibility to mitigate their impact. This means a strong relationship with both the SU and University press offices is vital.

Deputy Editor – 2-4 hours/week

The Deputy Editor supports the Editors-in-Chief alongside the rest of the Senior Editorial Team. The role is flexible, and requires you to be proactive and look for projects to work on. You have the freedom to take the role in any direction you’d like. The Deputy Editor is essentially an all-rounder, able to step in to help different branches of the paper if they require personnel.

Senior Digital Editor – 5-7 hours per week

The Senior Digital Editor oversees all areas of Epigram’s digital presence, ensuring that our online output is cohesive, engaging, accessible, and reflective of the paper’s editorial standards.

Epigrams digital content is crucial for increasing our engagement and readership.  In this role, you will lead the direction of our digital identity for the year, managing and working collaboratively with all areas of the Epigram team to ensure our journalism looks as strong online as it does in print.

This is both a creative and organisational leadership role. You will coordinate our digital schedule, support editors in promoting their content effectively, and develop new initiatives that expand Epigram’s reach and audience engagement. The role offers valuable experience in content strategy, platform management, and team leadership.

Senior Print Editor – 6-8 hours/week

The Print Editor is responsible for the creation of Epigram’s physical print, from start to finish every month. They are also responsible for the papers once they have been delivered, including picking them up from the delivery point in Senate House, and looking after them before they are distributed. The Print Editor has final say over any and all design decisions in the context of Epigram’s print editions. It is essential to have InDesign literacy.
