Fontaines D.C to play The Bristol Downs festival in two weeks time, Guy Marcham previews.
Fontaines D.C are currently taking 2019 by storm. The band’s spirited blend of Irish punk poetry can be heard surging nonstop through the airwaves of 6 Music as their hectic live shows have drawn bigger and bigger crowds. Frontman, Grian Chatten, encapsulates the bands stark intensity and ferocity, striking an emboldened pose almost akin to Joy Division’s Ian Curtis. Their incredible rise has even led to an announced date at London’s Brixton Academy next year as well as a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination for their stunning debut album, Dogrel.
The Dublin based band in fact add to an already phenomenal bill at this year’s Downs festival, with the line-up boasting similar full throttle punk acts such as Heavy Lungs and Idles, who themselves both hail from Bristol. Yet, this year’s festival is all about this roaring Irish quintet, who are sure to ‘tear down the plaster’ at this year’s festival with yet another explosive gig.
