The University of Bristol has committed to underwriting all Erasmus+ grants for students due to study abroad in the 2019/20 academic year, in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
In a statement made to Epigram, the University has confirmed its commitment to underwriting all Erasmus+ grants made to students for the upcoming academic year, in the case of a no deal Brexit.
The statement comes following the news that the Brexit negotiation period will be extended to 31 October 2019.
A spokesperson for the University of Bristol said: 'We appreciate that ongoing Brexit negotiations have created uncertainty for students in Europe and those who have applied for the Erasmus+ programme next year. Where possible we have tried to remove this uncertainty.
'We have committed to underwriting Erasmus grants for students going abroad in 2019/20 as well as guaranteeing all students that none would face any hindrance to their academic progression if they were unable to successfully complete their study or work placements due to Brexit.'
In an email sent to students on 11 April, the University confirmed that it has put plans in place to ensure minimal disruption to students in the case of all potential Brexit outcomes.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Judith Squires has been among a number of high-profile figures in Bristol to sign an open letter to EU citizens affirming the city’s commitment to diversity and respect.
