Epigram Music: What's on in Bristol this half term?

A simple breakdown of the best music events in Bristol for students this November and December.

By Lucy Bevan, Music Editor

Following a September and October filled with Enchanted Forests, Funk Addictions and even a rave under the Concorde, this half-term has a lot to live up to. But fear not, our guide to November and December in Bristol has got you covered, and this time we've got a whole lot more to offer.

Simple Things Festival

Saturday 7th of November - 12:00

Whilst this one may be slightly more on the expensive side, Simple Things Festival promises nothing less than a day of exploration - not only of new music, but also throughout Bristol. Spanning across Bristol Beacon, Strange Brew, Rough Trade, The Island and new venue Shredenhams, the festival is a city-wide celebration of boundary-pushing alternative music and contemporary culture. If this isn't enough to convince you, their previous lineups have included artists like Fontaines D.C and Idles, so these guys know what they're talking about.

Oh, and if this doesn't sound like enough, there’s also an opening and an afterparty, turning this day festival into more of a weekend.

Funk not your groove? Check out the BIG HOUSE PARTY at Bristol's Boxing Gym instead. If the piano and sofas in the smoking area aren't enough to convince you to attend, consider dancing on a bunk bed to some of Bristol's finest local DJs.

Electric - Seb Lowe

For just £16 (+BF), Seb Lowe makes his return to Bristol as part of his UK tour this November. While Lowe describes his live shows as ‘hard to describe if you haven't been’, take it from someone who has - this rising singer-songwriter is phenomenal. Known for his political verses and live violin, Lowe really knows how to put on a show. If you're in search of someone new to add to your playlist this autumn, give Seb a try.

The Fleece - Sax Education

Wednesday 25th of November - 19:00

Featuring three of UOB's best music societies, this evening of dancefloor-fillers and soulful vocals will celebrate the rich and varied history of jazz. Consider skipping your Wednesday sports night for this one as JFS society, Jazz Orchestra, and the Bristol Hornstars await you.

You've heard her at parties, you've probably caught her at a festival, now Archives is returning to Bristol to show off her talent in none other than The Prospect Building. For an emotional evening of highs and lows through her deeply personal Jungle style, use this one as a chance to dance and be in bed by midnight.

The Prospect Building - Interplanetary Criminal

Rising to international eminence after his chart-topper ‘B.O.T.A’ with Eliza Rose in 2022, Interplanetary Criminal has become one of UKG's biggest names. Housed for one night only in Bristol’s beloved Prospect Building, Interplanetary Criminal will no doubt get you out of your winter slump and into a state of pure euphoria.

How much is the music you're listening to affecting you?
With the weather getting colder and the days getting shorter, the music in your headphones on your walk to university might be affecting you more than you think.

Electric Bristol- Phoebe Bridgers

Tuesday 15th of December - 18:00

After Bridgers was unfortunately unable to play her album release show initially scheduled for August, fans have now had a few months to fully digest her latest album Lost Weekend. This will be Bridgers’ first show in Bristol since 2018, and she's coming back with a twist - no phones allowed. Tickets for this one are at no surprise sold out, but we couldn’t resist mentioning this one-of-a-kind gig at one of Bristol’s best venues in the heart of the city centre.

Bristol Cathedral - Candlelit Christmas Classics
