Bristol’s Apple Store closes to make way for redevelopment

Bristol’s Apple store has closed its doors after 15 years in Cabot Circus, following plans for redevelopment in the area.

The Philadelphia Street store’s final day was 9th August, making the Cribbs Causeway branch now the nearest location for Bristol residents, or alternatively Apple SouthGate in Bath.

The move comes after planning permission was granted by Bristol City Council in May for a redevelopment project in Quakers Friars, which will involve the closure of the area where the Apple Store was located.

This was the provided reasoning for the store to be shut down, with a spokesperson claiming that they have ‘loved serving the Bristol community’ and confirming that employees would continue their roles elsewhere in the company.

The store has no immediate planned replacement.

Hammerson, the managing company of Cabot Circus, are therefore moving forward with plans for revamping the Quakers Friars area as they aim to support local businesses and create more public spaces in the city centre.

They are focusing on producing a flexible and creative hub for various community events, and retail units in the area are set to be transformed into accessible spaces for healthcare and work.

The chair of the City Council's Economy and Skills Committee, Councillor Andrew Brown, stated that this revamp will support their vision ‘to provide a vibrant mix of culture and leisure facilities for citizens and visitors’ in Bristol.
