Epigram can reveal that the ASSL’s upper floors will be reopened on Monday 20 October.
In an exclusive statement given to Epigram, a University of Bristol spokesperson said that the reopening on 20 October will restore ‘access to all print collections and both large study areas. The ground floor, which is nearing completion, will reopen during the week commencing 17 November.’
The ASSL has been shut since 13 June 2025 as it undergoes a £1.8 million refurbishment. The library was due to be reopened in September in time for the new academic year but had to be delayed as additional building work was needed.
The news comes after Epigram has spoken to multiple students who have had negative experiences with the temporary Click and Collect service. Some have had to wait up to a week to receive their books.
The university’s spokesperson said: ‘We recognise that the closure has caused disruption and apologise to students who have experienced difficulty accessing print materials during this time.’
When the library is fully reopened in November, students will have access to a new exhibition gallery, which will showcase the library’s special collections, a new ‘creative lab’ for emerging technology, and a new café space. The Library Services Desk and IT Helpdesk will also be combined to improve access to the library’s service and support, according to the university.
