Working on Epigram’s news team is a fast-paced, exciting role. You will be the first on the scene to cover stories impacting students, the University, and the city of Bristol. 

We are looking for News Reporters who want to improve their journalistic skills, join an enthusiastic and supportive News team, and cover the stories that matter. 

Being a News Reporter comes with many benefits! This includes experience for future internships and roles, opportunities to network with published writers and columnists, and the chance to win awards at Student Publication Association (SPA) conferences. Looks good on a CV!

If you feel you lack experience, do not worry; the News Team is here to support you. You will receive in-depth training before your role starts, plus ongoing supervision throughout the year.

  • DO NOT need any prior writing / journalistic experience
  • Should be able to dedicate 2-3 hours per week

News Reporter Application 🗞
Epigram’s News Section is one of the paper’s most active and exciting sections, covering real events impacting fellow students, the University, and the city of Bristol. Our section is made up of the News Editors and News Reporters (you!). Everyone writes for the section but us Editors will provide close guidance and oversight as you begin writing. We do not expect for you to take on the role right away! If selected, you will undergo a News Training Session to formally introduce you to the role and its expectations. While there is flexibility in what and when you write for News, most of our reporters write around 2-3 articles per month. For content, we encourage our Reporters to keep your ear to the ground for live, exciting events worth publishing. However, this is not a requirement as your editors will also provide content for you to write.
