SW Sound #2: Squidge
By Laura Mallinson, Second Year English
If you’re looking for some explosive, grassroots grunge then look no further than Squidge...
A four piece from our neighbouring city Bath, Squidge have crafted their hard rock sound over the past four years, following their formation at Bath Spa University, to bring your ears a fresh burst of guitar lead grit. Described as a melting pot of grunge, emo and math-rock, this dynamic band refuse to be pigeonholed by just one rock genera.
Their creative composition mashes together these chaotic sounds to produce fully packed-out tracks which demand your attention. Renowned for their energetic relationship built with the crowd, you’re bound to be bouncing around The Exchange trying not to spill your pint within the first couple of tracks as their infectious energy pulls you to the pits.
Squidge are no strangers to the Bristol scene and are becoming seasoned showmen, following the support of Beans on Toast and soon to be teaming up with Idles in Bath on the 6th of March. Squidge can get a crowd moving with tracks from their debut EP What’s the Point to Care, as their crunchy riffs mix with melodic, introspective lyrics to give you a grungy ear-worm to keep you dancing all week. And, with new releases just around the corner, Squidge will be bashing out 'Tired', 'Sleep' and 'Never Knows Best' to give Bristol listeners a juicy taste of what’s to come for this innovative band, so be sure to get down to The Exchange to see the vibrant talent emerging from the Avon area.
With tickets from just £3 and support from The Lovesicks and Brain Ape, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck, so it’s the perfect opportunity to blow off some end of term steam and discover a new emerging band with breakthrough potential.
