University of Bristol rises 12 places in Guardian University Guide 2021

The University of Bristol has ranked as the 11th best university nationally, climbing 12 places, in the Guardian’s annual university guide.

The rankings compare 120 UK universities on the basis of 9 criteria, which include student satisfaction with teaching, courses and feedback and a score for graduate employability.

Alongside the overall ranking of the best UK universities, the guide also ranks subjects across institutions.

Two of the University of Bristol’s courses ranked best in the country: General Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Overall, sixteen of UoB’s subjects placed in the top ten, with nine in the top five.

Civil Engineering, Sociology, Film & Television were ranked 2nd, Anatomy & Physiology 4th and Chemistry, Pharmacy & Pharmacology and Philosophy 5th.

The Guardian’s rankings are the first league tables to assess graduates’ employment or continued further study within fifteen, rather than six, months of graduation.

On this criterion, 86% of Bristol graduates were in graduate-level employment or further HE study within 15 months.

In a statement commending staff and students, Professor Hugh Brady, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol said:

‘Our excellent performance, and that of our subjects, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, and to the talent of our students.’

Other highly University of Bristol courses that ranked highly include: Music (6th), Vetinary Science (6th), Computer Science (8th), Earth & Marine Science (8th), Economics (8th), History (8th) and Biological Sciences (10th).
