SU Election nominations are now open
By Zoë Crowther, Students' Union Correspondent
The SU elections shall take place in March and nominations for a number of roles are now open until Thursday 28 February.
Bristol Students' Union sees one of the highest turnouts for SU elections in the country, and they hope to break their record this year.
The roles include seven full-time paid officer positions:
- Union Affairs Officer
- Equality, Liberation and Access Officer
- Student Living Officer
- Sport and Student Development Officer
- Undergraduate Education Officer
- Postgraduate Education Officer
- International Students Officer - new position introduced for the year 2019-2020.
The full-time officers have pushed for various changes this year, and their achievements have included a new Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy which students were able to feed into, and the opening of the SU Living Room in Senate House.
Chairs for the twelve SU networks shall also be voted for. These networks are representative bodies which lead campaigns, events and forums to improve inclusivity and variety in University life. Some of these networks aim to develop communities for marginalised groups, such as those with disabilities and students identifying as BME or LGBT+.
Chair of the Multi-Faith Network is another position which has been newly introduced. They shall become the first leader of an official SU platform for students of faith to come together, hosting events to break down barriers between groups.

Chair of Student Council is another position to be filled for the next academic year, as well as various academic roles such as faculty reps, course reps and student trustees.
Stanford, who has been the full-time Union Affairs Officer for the last two years, said:
'There’s so much to gain – it’s fun, rewarding, gives you insight into levels of work far beyond your years and most of all you can do the role however suits you and make it your own! The only reason to not do it is concern about the campaigning process and I’d urge anyone who views that as a barrier to come talk to me – I’ve done it twice now!'
Over the next few weeks, students can nominate themselves or be recommended by a friend.
