Intramural hockey is a series with longstanding rivalries between teams that have battled it out with their sticks for years. The sporting rivalry resembles the academic: with medics vs. vets, arts vs. Sciences, with halls and societies thrown in too.
However, intramural isn’t all about combative rivalry and sports performance. The series is based on healthy competition, where enjoyment, socialising and being active are arguably more important than winning.
It’s UoB’s answer to casual sport - the kind you can just turn up and enjoy, without having to be a performance athlete. It’s perfect for people who’ve played a bit of hockey but didn’t have the time, skills or commitment for club sport.
Saying that, men’s hockey have introduced an exciting new scheme; for £20 intramural players can participate in their social training sessions - options are there for those that want it.
