A twist on the classic mince pie

The mince pie is a December classic treat, which is associated with the Christmas season. Despite its popularity, it is seen as the 'Marmite of Christmas treats', with either highly favourable, or strongly opposed views.

Made of shortcrust pastry, mince pies are stuffed with something known as mincemeat (not to be confused with minced meat- easily the case). Mincemeat is a combination of chopped dry fruit, spirits, and spices. This combination may be an acquired taste for some and loved by others.

However, if you are not a fan of the December classic, there are various adaptations to the pie that you can try to still be able to get into the festive cheer of the yuletide.

Chocolate mince pies:

One filling that is loved by almost all is chocolate! Waitrose have introduced a chocolate and sour cherry mince pie range by Heston.

Salted caramel mince pies:

Aldi's adaptation on the mince pie has used a combination of the classic mincemeat alongside salted caramel, providing a sweeter kick to the treat
