It goes without saying that every day is a great day to be a foodie in Bristol, but last Friday was a real highlight. Students were blessed with the presence of Mob Kitchen as they rolled up to the SU in their beautifully re branded Mob Truck.

Mob partnered with Merchant Gourmet for the day to serve up a real feast and save us from yet another tin of baked beans lurking in the cupboard. The truck team had been hard at work to prep a mere 25kg of guacamole ahead of the big day - they clearly know how to reach the heart of a Bristol student.

On the (all vegan) menu was the option of a cajun lentil burrito or a fiery bowl of harissa puy lentils with charred Romano peppers and an olive salsa – all for free! An impossible choice really… most people did the logical thing and sampled both.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. From freshers to finalists, Bristol’s own mob came flocking to the Richmond Building. Whether it was grabbing bundles of burritos for hungover flatmates or securing a salad for a friend in the midst of their exams, Mob Kitchen and Merchant Gourmet had everyone covered.

Next stops for the Mob Truck include Nottingham, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sussex as they tour British universities and grow the Mob community. All the details are on their Instagram @themobtruck. There will be tickets on sale in advance which permit students to get their hands on a halloumi burger for the grand total of £1!

If you couldn’t make it on Friday, be sure to treat yourself to a bag of Merchant Gourmet’s lentils and try recreating it yourself. And if you did, get your hands on their new recipe book ‘Comfort Mob’ or search their Instagram, @mobkitchen, for endless meal inspiration. It’s a sure guarantee for some very happy flatmates and an incredible smelling kitchen.

Thank you to the incredible teams at Mob Kitchen and Merchant Gourmet who made Friday possible, please don’t leave it too long before visiting us again!
