Update: In a recent development to this news, Avon Fire & Rescue have released an incident report that states ‘the cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition.’

The public have been asked to avoid the area around Nelson Street in Bristol’s city centre, after a fire hit SWX nightclub during the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters are continuing to attend the scene of the fire at SWX as the incident remains ongoing.

Avon Fire Rescue fire crews from a number of neighbouring stations were called to respond to the fire after receiving initial reports of the blaze breaking out around 4:30am on Tuesday 13 July.

Firefighters drawn from a wide area were joined at the scene this morning by Avon & Somerset Police, who stated they were assisting with road closures to enable fire crews to deal with the incident.

The fire comes as the student popular nightclub was preparing to fully re-open on 19 July with a sell-out event, following the government’s easing of remaining COVID-19 restrictions.
