A first year student's email has been used to send out a message with Bristol SU as the sender, Epigram has learnt.

Last Friday, students and staff from the University of Bristol and Bristol SU received an email with Bristol SU as the sender. The SU has confirmed that this email did not come from them and has subsequently advised students and staff not to open any links within the email.

Epigram has learnt that the email address from which these messages were sent is that of a new first year student, who has not started at the University yet.

A spokesperson from Bristol SU said: 'We are aware that an email was sent out with Bristol SU as the sender. This was not from the Students' Union and we have informed IT Services. Whilst IT Services are investigating the email we advise not clicking on the link.'
