Bristol students raise over £1500 for biomed cleaner to travel to Jamaica

After weeks of fundraising, Bristol students have gifted Herman and his wife £1577 to visit Jamaica for the first time in four years.

Using online forum Bristruths on Facebook, students anonymously posted the GoFundme page to raise the funds, starting with a £1000 target.

After setting up the crowdfunder, the anonymous students said ‘This page is simply just to give back to Herman- in the form of providing enough funds so that he can catch a flight to Jamaica for a week this summer to see his family’.

‘His undying positive energy and chit-chat has managed to turn many students’ dark days into positive ones filled with joy'.

Their target was surpassed within weeks, however, and today (26th June, 2018) Bristruths posted the video of Herman recieving the money, £1577 raised by 232 supporters, for his holiday.

The page creators said: 'we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this incredible gift. It is truly amazing what we can achieve when we come together'.

Bristruths, the page that allowed this all to happen, said 'we are so proud that our page managed to help this and we hope Herman has an amazing time'

The money came with a note that read: 'Dear Herman, on behalf of the students of Bristol, we would like to thank you for all the positive energy you have given us through the years. You have brightened many of our days and we want you to know that we love and appreciate you. We have come together with this special gift as our way of saying thank you. Have a lovely summer! Much love, Bristol Students'
