Bristol Big Give 2018 for charity starts this week

Bristol Big Give 2018 is now open! From Monday 23rd April, students moving out of accommodation can donate their unwanted items.

The donated items will go to the British Heart Foundation and other charities as part of a citywide initiative to divert waste from landfill and help support local charities.

Every summer, thousands of students move out of accommodation. Whilst clearing out your room, there will inevitably be things you don’t want to take with you – that’s where the Big Give comes in.

Bristol Big Give and British Heart Foundation donation points have been set up in halls of residence and across the city this month, and you can donate your unwanted items until the end of July.

You can donate items including clothing, shoes, bags, books, stationery, kitchen items, electrical items, homeware and sports equipment. Last year the Bristol Big Give prevented over 144 tonnes from going to landfill, raising up to £250,000 for local and national charities.

The Big Give’s success last year wouldn’t have been possible without the help of student volunteers, and the campaign is currently seeking volunteers to build on this success this year!

Campaign organisers are planning a number of pop-up events to promote the Big Give including clothes-swaps, pop-up shops and information stands. They are also seeking help sorting donations that will go to local charities.

If you can spare just a few hours of your time to get involved, or better yet if you have an idea for you own pop-up event, message the Big Give Facebook page directly or email Hollie Armstrong, Project Support Officer, at

Bristol Big Give is a partnership between University of Bristol, Bristol SU, UWE, UWE SU, Bristol Waste Company and British Heart Foundation.
